MHT-CET results

NAGPUR: The day of reckoning is here with results of one of the most anticipated entrance examinations set to declared on Sunday. The Directorate
of Medical Education and Research (DMER) will declare the results of Maharashtra Health and Technology Common Entrance Examination (MHT-CET) at 9.30 am on its website. DMER is the competent authority for the examination.

“The results will be out on our websites — www.dmer.org and www.dte.org.in — from 9.30 am onwards. We have already dispatched marksheets to the respective colleges all over Maharashtra which will be distributed to the students from 10 am,” medical education director Dr Wasudeo Tayade told TOI from Mumbai. He brushed aside any thoughts of declaring results a day before scheduled date like last year.

The MHT-CET is the single exam for admissions to health sciences, engineering and pharmacy courses. Even the admission for veterinary sciences course (BVSc and AH) are conducted through same examination. The exam was postponed from May 7 to 12 due as its date clashed with Karnataka CET.

Over 83,000 seats are up for grabs in 350 institutions in the state in three disciplines. Of which 3,785 seats are in health sciences, 7,675 seats in pharmacy and 71,701 in engineering. Interestingly, a host of new engineering and pharmacy colleges are awaiting approval from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in entire Maharashtra. Among them at least six engineering colleges are slated to open under the Nagpur University. Additionally, four new colleges that had already secured approval last year from apex body for engineering education will be starting their operations from this year. Ironically, no new medical college is coming up either in the state or in the city.

According to Dr NT Jeevtode of Government Medial College who is competent authority for MHT-CET in Nagpur district, the restoration of 40 MBBS seats of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGGMC) that it had slashed, was good news for medical aspirants.

“The students should feel happy that the Medical Council of India has restored 40 precious MBBS seats of IGGMC before the admissions begin. The deserving candidates, who cannot afford exorbitant cost of medical education, will be benefitted,” he said.

Dr Jeevtode added that admission process will probably start in June last week or July first week with the sale of information brochure. If students have any objections on the marks, they can send it for verification along with prescribed fees before June 18 and the final merit list will be published on June 25.

A total of 2,45,673 students appeared for the examination from 647 centres in Maharashtra.
